About - The School Library Toolkit

Welcome to The School Library Toolkit website.

This website is a project of the School Library Association of Victoria. An ongoing subscription to the website can be purchased through the SLAV store this is for unlimited access within your school.

SLAV will continue to update and maintain this website and we welcome ideas for content, please contact the SLAV office with any suggestions.

The toolkit is based on the SLAV Statement on School Libraries which was prepared by the association, and ratified by the SLAV state council, in 2018. The toolkit material was initially prepared by Mary Manning, a long standing, highly experienced educator who was the Executive Officer of SLAV for many years. Mary is currently the Editor of the SLAV journal FYI.

Mary Manning

Mary Manning is a former teacher-librarian, SLAV Executive Officer, education and school library consultant and currently edits the SLAV journal, FYI. Over her extensive career, Mary has been responsible for, and contributed to, a number of SLAV publications that addressed the role of the school library, teaching information and research skills, the school library environment, reading, curriculum design, and advocacy for the positive impact of an effective school library on student learning. Her passion for school libraries and support for those who work in them has led her to bring her knowledge to The School Library Toolkit, a web-based resource that offers vision, practical advice and a means of articulating and evaluating what you do in your school library.
